Arrival & Negombo Welcome
Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Private transfer to Negombo for a gentle coastal landing after the long-haul flight. Settle into a quiet boutique or wellness-friendly stay. Evening ocean breathing session, light herbal tea and early rest to begin the journey slowly. Overnight in Negombo.

Negombo to Sigiriya via Dambulla
Negombo to Sigiriya via Dambulla, approximately 3.5 to 4 hrs. Travel inland through coconut estates and rural dry-zone landscapes. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple, with ancient Buddhist murals, reclining Buddha statues and quiet cave-shrine atmosphere. Continue to Sigiriya and check in to an eco-style nature resort. Evening at leisure with optional herbal steam bath or light Ayurvedic foot therapy. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Sigiriya – Village Life and Soft Adventure
Sigiriya village life and soft adventure. Morning climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress for active families, with Pidurangala communicated at booking as a softer alternative for younger children or those who prefer a shorter climb. Sigiriya Rock should not be positioned as suitable for children under 6; include Pidurangala details and photos in pre-trip documentation rather than deciding on the day. Afternoon village experience with catamaran lake crossing, paddy-field walking, pottery demonstration and traditional cooking. Evening storytelling session around Sri Lankan kings, elephants and local legends. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Sigiriya – Minneriya Safari – Kandy
Sigiriya to Minneriya safari to Kandy, approximately 3 hrs after safari routing. Early morning jeep safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park, using the 6am to 10am window to avoid a late family arrival in Kandy. Return briefly to refresh if needed, then drive to Kandy and aim to arrive by around 1pm. Afternoon at leisure for rest, pool time or an easy Kandy Lake walk. Overnight in Kandy.

Kandy – Family Culture Day
Kandy family culture day. Morning guided visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic with gentle cultural explanation suitable for families. Continue to Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens for orchids, palm avenues, giant trees and open walking spaces. Evening Kandyan cultural dance performance with fire acts, drumming and colourful costumes; the 5pm show is best for families and should be booked in advance during peak season. Overnight in Kandy.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya – Tea Country
Kandy to Nuwara Eliya, approximately 2.5 hrs. Scenic drive into the tea country with stops at waterfalls and mountain viewpoints. Visit a working tea estate where children can try tea plucking while adults enjoy a guided Ceylon tea tasting. Afternoon Gregory Lake activities with optional paddle boating, cycling or relaxed lakeside walking. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

Scenic Train – Nanu Oya to Ella
Nuwara Eliya to Ella by scenic train from Nanu Oya, approximately 3.5 hrs. Board the scenic hill-country train through tea valleys, tunnels, waterfalls and misty mountain villages. Arrive in Ella and settle into a family-friendly hill-view lodge. Evening cafe walk or quiet sunset viewpoint stop. Overnight in Ella.

Ella – Highlands and Bridges
Ella highlands and bridges. Morning visit to Nine Arch Bridge, timed for a train crossing where possible. Easy hike to Little Adam’s Peak for active families. Optional Ravana Falls stop, zipline for older children or a short local cooking class. Evening at leisure in Ella’s relaxed mountain atmosphere. Overnight in Ella.

Ella to Udawalawe
Ella to Udawalawe, approximately 2 hrs. Drive south from the highlands into open dry-zone landscape. Visit the Elephant Transit Home to observe orphaned elephant calves being rehabilitated before release into the wild, confirming current feeding times in advance. Use the 3pm feeding before a shorter late-afternoon safari where feasible, or choose the morning feeding and keep the afternoon safari fuller and calmer. Afternoon jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park, ideal for reliable elephant sightings in open grassland. Overnight near Udawalawe.

Udawalawe to Bentota
Udawalawe to Bentota, approximately 3 hrs. Morning at leisure or optional second short safari. Continue to Bentota for the beach chapter of the journey. Afternoon beach relaxation, resort pool time or gentle water sports depending on family preference. From May to October, brief families that the west coast sea can be rough; keep water activities focused on the river and lagoon or substitute Pasikudah from April to September. Overnight in Bentota.

Bentota – Madu River – Galle
Bentota to Madu River to Galle. Morning Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Centre visit followed by Madu River mangrove boat safari with cinnamon island, birds, river wildlife and village scenery. Continue to Galle Fort for a relaxed sunset walk along the ramparts. Overnight in Galle.

Galle to Colombo – Departure
Galle to Colombo departure, approximately 2.5 hrs. Final morning exploring Galle Fort’s lighthouse, Dutch-era streets, boutique lanes, cafes and colonial ramparts. Transfer along the Southern Expressway to Colombo or Bandaranaike International Airport. Optional shopping stop depending on flight time. Departure.
