1
Arrival – Colombo
Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport. Private transfer to Colombo. Settle into a boutique city hotel and enjoy a gentle introduction to Colombo’s colonial streets, oceanfront promenade or refined dining scene depending on arrival time. Overnight in Colombo.

Colombo to Sigiriya via Dambulla
Colombo to Sigiriya via Dambulla, approximately 4 hrs total with sightseeing. Travel inland toward the Cultural Triangle. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple, exploring its ancient Buddhist murals, statues and cave-shrine architecture. Continue to Sigiriya for an evening at a nature resort surrounded by jungle and water gardens. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Sigiriya – Rock Fortress and Minneriya
Sigiriya rock fortress and Minneriya. Early morning climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress with guided storytelling on the ancient palace, water gardens, frescoes and summit views. Afternoon jeep safari in Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park for elephant herds and dry-zone birdlife. July to October is the strongest Minneriya window; for May to June departures, use Kaudulla or Habarana village cycling if elephant movement is less reliable. Overnight in Sigiriya.

Polonnaruwa to Trincomalee
Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa to Trincomalee, approximately 4 hrs total with sightseeing. Morning guided exploration of Polonnaruwa Ancient City by bicycle, tuk tuk or private vehicle. Visit Gal Vihara, Vatadage, royal palace ruins and medieval irrigation landscapes. Depart Polonnaruwa by 1pm to arrive Trincomalee by around 3.30pm. Continue east toward Trincomalee for the beach chapter. Overnight in Trincomalee or Nilaveli.

Trincomalee – Ocean, Temple and Leisure
Trincomalee ocean, temple and leisure. Morning visit to Koneswaram Temple, dramatically positioned above the Indian Ocean. Optional snorkelling at Pigeon Island National Park during suitable sea conditions, with June to August usually best and May or September kept weather-dependent. If the sea is choppy, substitute relaxed Nilaveli beach time or another east-coast soft activity. Afternoon at leisure for boutique beach comfort. Overnight in Trincomalee or Nilaveli.

Trincomalee – Slow Beach Day
Trincomalee slow beach day. Full day on the east coast with optional whale or dolphin watching depending on season and sea conditions, kayaking, spa treatment, local seafood lunch or quiet coastal photography. Evening sunset by the bay. Overnight in Trincomalee or Nilaveli.

Trincomalee to Kandy
Trincomalee to Kandy, approximately 4 to 4.5 hrs. Depart Trincomalee by 8.30am and drive inland toward Kandy through rural landscapes and spice-growing regions. Aim to arrive around 12.30pm. If timing allows, visit Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens this afternoon, then attend the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic 6.30pm ceremony. No other activities should be added to this travel day. Overnight in Kandy.

Kandy to Ella – Scenic Train
Kandy to Ella by scenic train, approximately 6 hrs depending on train timing. Board the early scenic hill-country train toward Ella so guests experience better daylight and avoid a late-night arrival. Peradeniya Botanical Gardens should not be left for this morning unless guests accept a later train and evening arrival. Travel through tea estates, tunnels, waterfalls and misty valleys. Evening relaxed arrival in Ella. Overnight in Ella.

Ella – Highland Scenic Day
Ella highland scenic day. Optional Horton Plains half-day can be added with a 6am departure from Ella, reaching World’s End early and returning by late morning. Morning hike to Little Adam’s Peak or afternoon visit depending on Horton Plains timing. Visit Nine Arch Bridge and time the stop for a train crossing where possible. Optional Ravana Falls, tea estate walk, zipline or cafe exploration. Overnight in Ella.

Ella to Tangalle
Ella to Tangalle, approximately 3.5 to 4 hrs. Descend from the highlands toward the southern coast through Wellawaya and rural dry-zone landscapes. Arrive in Tangalle for a quiet boutique beach stay. Because this summer route overlaps with the south-west monsoon, brief guests that Tangalle seas can be rough from May to September; for June to September departures, use Pasikudah or extend the Trincomalee beach stay if swimming beaches are a priority. Afternoon at leisure with optional spa treatment, beach yoga or sunset coastal walk. Overnight in Tangalle.

Tangalle to Galle
Tangalle to Galle, approximately 1.5 to 2 hrs. Morning beach leisure or optional visit to Mulkirigala Rock Temple. Continue to Galle Fort for a guided heritage walk through the ramparts, lighthouse, old merchant houses, galleries and cafes. Overnight in Galle.

Galle to Colombo – Departure
Galle to Colombo departure, approximately 2.5 hrs. Final morning in Galle Fort. Transfer along the Southern Expressway to Colombo or Bandaranaike International Airport. Optional city stop or shopping break depending on flight timing. Departure.

- This is a summer route, best sold from May to September when Trincomalee and Nilaveli are in season. For October to March, redesign around the south and west coasts instead of the east coast.
