Practical Notes

  • A compact tea, rail and heritage route. The Ella-to-Galle day requires an early start, and train seats should be requested as early as possible. Best from November to April, with January to April strongest for highland clarity.
  • Wildlife sightings, whale watching, sea conditions, rail timings and weather-dependent activities are never guaranteed. Where needed, The Uncommon Route will recommend the most sensible seasonal alternative.
